This is a very rude, fun film, in which Robert De Niro drags his grandson off to a beach resort in hopes of making him break off his dull marriage and also for Grandpa to get some sex having just buried his wife. Perhaps it's a bit soon after the funeral, but does it matter, really? And it isn't just for him, in any case, and that wedding is looming ... Robert De Niro is on great unbuttoned form as the former Green Beret helping his grandson to loosen up a bit and not throw away his life. He doesn't shy away from dirty talk, as if he's just discovered Millie Jackson ... And when the grandson is played by Zac Efron looking very hot especially high and dancing with a big cuddly bee attached to the front of his jockstrap, you know it can't be all bad at a superficial level. Actually, though, it's not without its truths, even if they're made in an exaggerated way - De Niro has earned the right to be a bit indirect. It's really quite a subtle endorsement of long-lasting marriages, and its apparent awkwardness on racial or sexual-orientation themes is clearly brought under a larger, colourful sunshade. I think it's the Atlanta weather that brought out the youthful streak in Dick Kelly, and there are a lot more hits than misses, the flexing competition at Daytona Beach being a highlight. Great chemistry ensures that the misses don't matter too much either, and it keeps pretty pacy.
