HOW TO PLAY CUSTOM PORTAL 2 MAPS

Here is a guide on how to play custom MAPS in Portal 2 (until Valve give us an easier way). I will cover both Single Player and CO OP mode. Remember that its always the host who needs to enter any console commands so they will need to enable developer console.

You will need something to extract rar and zip files. I suggest WinRAR

Single Player

1) Download the chamber to your desktop.
2) Extract it using whatever archive manager you prefer
3) Grab the map file (which should be called something like sp_xxxx.bsp)
4) Drop it into your Portal 2 maps folder which is

Windows XP/Vista/7 32bit

c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2\maps

Windows XP/Vista/7 64bit

c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2\maps

5) Run the game
6) Open console by pressing `  (which is the button immediately left of your numerical 1 key)
7) type in (and press enter afterwards)

map map_name_here.bsp

*note you only need to enter the first few letters and the map name will appear in the suggestion dialouge, press the down arrow key and it will fill the rest of the name in for you.

The chamber will now load.

CO OP

1) Both players download the chamber to your desktops.
2) Extract it using whatever archive manager you prefer
3) Both players grab the map file (which should be called something like mp_xxxx.bsp)
4) Both players drop it into your Portal 2 maps folder which is

Windows XP/Vista/7 32bit

c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2\maps

Windows XP/Vista/7 64bit

c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2\maps

5) Run the game
6) Start a CO OP game, connect to each other and wait until your both in the game (doesn’t matter where you end up)
6) Host player then opens console
7) type in (and press enter afterwards)

changelevel map_name_here.bsp

*note you only need to enter the first few letters and the map name will appear in the suggestion dialouge, press the down arrow key and it will fill the rest of the name in for you.

Now you can play!
